I THINK one of them switches between 2 tape types. IDK whether there's a manual, but I'm not sure what a couple of the controls do. This powerful collection of three plug-insReel Tape Saturation, Reel Tape Delay, and Reel Tape Flangeris designed to beef up your mixes and add that elusive magnetic vibe to your live sound, without the hassle of actually owning and operating a reel-to-reel tape machine. Along with a brand new selectable Type 1 Cassette Impulse Response (IR), weve improved the saturation. Avid brings the unmistakable warmth and punch of analog tape into the digital domain with Reel Tape Suite. Following up from our well received Tape Cassette 1, weve updated the plugin with a sleek interface and more changes under the hood too. That's how good and authentic-sounding Ferox is. Tape Cassette 2 is an audio plugin that emulates the warmth, noise and character of old tape cassettes.

While showing someone songs I've recorded, there have been a couple of times where I had to repeat myself, explaining to peeps, "No, this isn't from the 60s this is me last week", and they initially didn't believe me. It's the realest-sounding tape sim there is, imo and in my experience. But Ferox is even better, and you can jack with tape alignment and a couple of other arcane controls, with which you can arrive at excellent "almost terrible in a good way" sound characteristics. It's modeled on consumer small scale reel tape, which may have been about double or triple the width of cassette tape, and speeds were about 3 1/2 ips and about 1 1/8 ips, switchable between those 2 speeds and 3 formulations of tape. The only other tape sim I've paid for which is similarly useful, is Audio Thing "Reels", which isn't a model of a studio tape rig, but a 60s consumer tape recorder, so it's more of a novelty or effect, but I've had good results using it. The slower end of the range gets you low and lowish-fi harmonically happening sound characteristics. The tape speed is adjustable freely, from very ridiculously slow to what I suppose could be 30 ips, but maybe it's 15. I own several tape sims, and this allows me to dial in era-perfect mid 60s garage rock feel and tone.
